Polling Agents Mastermind Electoral Fraud

A presidential hopeful of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, has suggested the need to scrap the concept of polling agents during elections. He claimed that the polling agents who are supposed to ensure free, fair and transparent elections end up masterminding electoral malpractices during elections. He also endorsed calls on the Electoral Commission to support the biometric voter registration exercise with a verification mechanism. Dr. Nduom is convinced that the verification mechanism will help prevent fraud and other forms of electoral irregularities that have always characterised general elections conducted in Ghana. The CPP presidential hopeful spoke exclusively to Citi News during the commissioning of two new CPP offices for the Obom-Domiabra and Ashaiman constituencies which have been financed by him. On the issue of CPP going for early congress to elect its flagbearer, Dr. Nduom said it was the prerogative of the national leadership to do so. He, however, confessed that such a move will enable the CPP sell its campaign message to the Ghanaian electorate to vote it into office in 2012. At Obom-Domiabra, Dr. Ndoum promised the people that a new CPP government will address the socio-economic needs of every Ghanaian.
