Appiah Insists Black Stars Readiness For Nations Cup

Ghana is battle ready to mount a serious challenge in next year’s Africa Cup of Nations according to assistant coach Akwesi Appiah. The Black Stars have been tipped as overwhelming favouirites to end the 30-year wait for an African title by the time the tournament kicks off in January. Ghana is placed in Group D which will play its games in Franceville alongside Botswana, Guinea and Mali and the ex Black Stars captain insists the team is on course to achieve the illusive feat. “I think we have played so many friendly games apart from the qualifier and I believe that we have the right materials,” he told Takoradi-based Melody FM. “What we will be doing now is to be going round to monitor the players we intend selecting for the games. “After that we will be going for two weeks camping before the competition itself.” The Black Stars are scheduled for a two-week camping at South Africa to fine tune preparations for the Nations Cup which kicks off on 21 January. Ghana will however wait until the 24th to play its first group game against debutant’s Botswana.
