Angry NIA Workers Lock Up Authorities

Angry workers of the National Identification Authority (NIA) on Wednesday locked up officials of the authority at its offices for non-payment of salaries. The workers, mainly from the Identification System and Card Department are demanding immediate payment of their salary arrears, which they say dates back to November last year. According to them, several meetings convened between management and the affected departments have yielded no positive results. Douglas Novihoho, one of the aggrieved workers, who protested at the NIA offices told Citi News that most of the staff are fed up with the treatment shown them by their authorities. He narrated that most of the irate workers blocked the main gate preventing customers from going to take their ID cards. Most of the staff are in red armbands and some even have it as a neck tie. Others have even blocked the gate preventing the customers from coming in to take their ID cards, he said. They are agitating that they have not been paid for almost a year and a half now, Novihoho added.
