Haruna Iddrisu Vows To Retain Seat

The Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Alhaji Iddrisu Haruna, has indicated his resolve to hold on to the seat he captured from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2004 for the third successive term when given the mandate in the partys primaries in January next year. He explained that the seat would forever remain the NDCs, following the numerous development interventions he had undertaken with support from the government and other partners to improve the quality of life of the people. It is a common knowledge to everybody that the Tamale South Constituency seat belongs to the NDC today, tomorrow and for the future. We are indeed battle ready for the 2012 elections, the MP assured. Alhaji Haruna was addressing teeming supporters of the NDC at a performance review meeting of the constituency in Tamale. He further stated that winning the parliamentary seat again in the 2012 elections was not in doubt but that, our main concern is widening the margin of victory for both the parliamentary and presidential elections to consolidate President Mills grip on power to continue with his Better Ghana Agenda. On party wrangling, the MP, who is also the Minister of Communication, entreated the people to be tolerant of opposing views and be mindful of their utterances and actions. According to him, any untoward behaviour by a member of the government or party functionaries goes to weaken the NDC to the advantage of the opposition parties. He announced that electoral areas in the constituency had been increased to 23 and that plans were on course to train polling station agents of the party on the knitty- gritty of the electronic registration and voting systems. The acting Northern Regional Chairman of the party, Sofo Azorka, described the large turn-out of members as encouraging and an indication that the NDC was on course to consolidate its gains in the 2012 general election in the region. He, however, admonished party faithful to uphold the prevailing harmony in the party in the area and to turn out in their numbers to register during the forthcoming voter registration exercise next year to enable them exercise their franchise.
