Anger In Military!

There is anger and consternation within Ghanas latest peace-keeping mission to Liberia, which is currently assembling in Accra and is set to leave this week. This follows revelations that the soldiers are being forced to travel on the peace-keeping mission with their old uniforms and kits, instead of being issued with new ones. The Daily Searchlight newspaper has been reliably informed that the practice in previous times had been to issue the soldiers with brand new uniforms before every peace-keeping trip, which is normally under the auspices of the United Nations. This time round they are sending us on this trip in the old uniforms we used for bush training, and this is simply not good enough, one soldier complained to this newspaper. He stated that apart from that, every year, each soldier is issued with one or two sets of uniforms, but for the whole of last year they were not issued with the uniforms, thus compounding their dilemma. Again, our 20% allowance on the single spine has not been paid, and strangely, now our salaries are so delayed that sometimes they run into the other month, which would have been unheard off in times past. Previously, we used to receive our salaries as early as the 23rd of every month, but now it is running even into the next month, they said. If they can find monies to give to friends of the President, why cant they find monies for our salaries on time and to buy us uniforms? they wondered.
