Monica Shebra Remanded For Misconducting Herself In Court

Monica Shebra, who accompanied her nephew to a circuit court in Cape Coast on Thursday, ended up in remand for misbehaving in the court room. Shebra, now a suspect, travelled from Takoradi to the court where her nephew, Ishmael Baidoo, a 32-year-old driver, was standing trial. After the court, presided over by Mrs. Florence Kai Otu remanded Baidoo into police custody, Shebra, who was displeased with the decision, complained on top of her voice in the court room. Though the police and some people at the scene cautioned the woman against her action, she persisted. Shebra resisted arrest but she was apprehended and remanded in police custody to appear before a Magistrates court on February 6. Baidoo, who is to reappear in court on February 16, had pleaded not guilty to one count of careless and inconsiderate driving and 19 counts of negligently causing harm. Chief Inspector Francis Ockom said on April 4, 2009, Baidoo, who was driving a truck from Cape Coast towards Takoradi, overtook a fleet of vehicles and in the process collided with a bus. The prosecution said the driver of the bus and a passenger died on the spot and 17 passengers sustained injuries. He said the injured persons were taken to the Central Regional Hospital where four of them died on admission.
