One Hassan Ayariga has beaten veteran Dr Edward Mahama to become the People�s National Convention (PNC) presidential candidate for the Ghana 2012 general elections slated for December. Ayariga polled 483 votes as against Dr Mahama�s 426 to ditch the latter�s attempt to stand on the party�s ticket for the fifth time. Hassan was born on 4th September 1971 in Bawku in the Upper East region of Ghana. His father Frank Abdulai Ayariga, was a member of parliament for the Bawku constituency during the third republic administration of Dr. Hilla Limann and his mother Anatu Ayariga, a business woman, whose passion for child education in the then impoverished northern sector of Ghana, made her stand her ground to ensure all her children and those in the community were educated. At the party�s national delegates� congress held at the Sunyani Polytechnic in the Brong Ahafo regional capital of Sunyani, Bernard Mornah polled 437 votes to retain the general secretary position as against Atik Mohammed�s 404 votes. Alhaji Ahmed Ramadan will continue to be in office as the national chairman of the PNC. He had 362 votes to beat Dr. Edward Gyader, who polled 287 votes. Other positions elected by the delegates include First Vice Chairman which was taken by Hajia Ajara Musah, National Youth Organiser is now Abu Ramadan and the National Organiser was annexed by Emmanuel Wilson. The congress was presided over by Mr. Ebenezer Aggrey-Fynn of the Electoral Commission.
