Ledzokuku NDC Chairman Goes Solo?

One-Time Miss Ghana, Benita Sena Golomeke Okiti-Dua may have won the primaries to represent the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ledzokuku constituency for this years general election but may be unable to win the seat for the party. Certain NDC residents at Teshie who have organized themselves under the group Friends of Ben Ayiku (FOBA) are calling on the constituencys vice president and businessman, Ben Ayiku to represent them as an independent candidate. Some members of the group who spoke to Daily Guide during separate interviews cited the inability of the former beauty queen to unite the party since winning the primaries. Their main concern is that an indigenous candidate with Teshie blood is needed to lead the party in the constituency. Last Sunday, FOBA members besieged the Teshie offices of Total Filling station, a business concern owned by Mr. Ayiku to impress upon him to heed their call to represent them as an independent candidate. When the 48-year old emerged to meet the broom-wielding crowd who had also displayed posters of him, he told them he was going to consult the party hierarchy before making a decision. I am still the vice president of the NDC in this constituency and our partys constitution does not allow me to contest but I will meet the party officials and take a decision on this matter, he told the agitated crowd. He said if it became important, he would resign his position and represent them adding that the people were more powerful than the party.
