The matters which informed the decision to arrest Hon O.B. Amoah are beginning to emerge and they are worrisome. The arbitrary action is deficient in legal wisdom, as it is bears similarities with previous state-orchestrated acts of impunity under the Mills government. It reminds us about the arrest of the NPP�s Hon. Asamoah Boateng, an action which drew party picketers to the BNI offices and a fatality. The most striking feature of this recent action is the futile attempt by the President and his team to share the Woyome scandal blame between the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) with the New Patriotic Party (NPP). During the plan to execute some Generals during the dark days in Ghana�s history, there was a decision to introduce an ethnic balance by bringing in a General from the Volta Region; the arrest of O.B. Amoah can be aptly described as a political equalization or balancing. If this is how cheap governance has been rendered, the need for a national discourse on the political ailment that has afflicted the nation cannot be overlooked. So if Hon. O.B. Amoah had any business transaction with Alfred Agbesi Woyome, as in the case of the purchasing of the land at Kitase, Aburi by the latter, an arrangement facilitated by the former, should the issue be exploited to the advantage of a distressed NDC? Ironically, the exploitation is rather to the disadvantage of the party which is suffering its most turbulent moments in its history yet. There is no doubt that what transpired, upon the orders from above, cast a long shadow over democracy in the country. The negative impact of such political recklessness on Ghana�s governance rating is in not in our interest, our political affiliations nonetheless. Whatever positive feats we attracted in the past years have all been reduced to smithereens as MPs are arrested with no recourse to the Speaker as constitutionally established. The President�s public posture is not commensurate with the acts of diabolism and disregard for the tenets of the Constitution he is presiding over, and it hurts to witness how such drawbacks are impacting negatively on our image, especially in the international theatre. The intention was to humiliate O.B. Amoah and satisfy the decision reached earlier that an NPP personality too be arrested and questioned about the Woyome saga. This action is intended to create a semblance of equal culpability in the mammoth scandal and calm the tempers of crestfallen NDC supporters, alongside dampening the spirit of vociferous NPP activists who continue to occupy their rooftop positions. He was arrested on a Sunday when he went home to pick materials related to his parliamentary work, a constitutional breach.
