AFAG Challenges Govt To Produce 'Missing' Woyome Documents

Pressure group, Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) has challenged government to produce the largest part of the documents on the judgement debt paid to businessman, Alfred Agbesi Woyome, which government says are missing. A Deputy Minister for Information, Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa on Joy FMs current affairs programme, News File said most of Mr. Woyomes documents were missing. AFAGs Director of Research, Davis Opoku in an interview with Citi News said the latest twist to the matter meant that the NDC government was not committed to fighting corruption in Ghana. I think those comments are unfortunate especially coming from a Minister of State, a deputy minister of Information, if today the government is telling us that some of the documents are missing and they are unable to come out with an outright judgement on this matter, that I think is a bit childish, he noted. Mr. Davis said, We expect government to show some level of commitment in solving this problem and if that is done we will see that we have a responsible government, a government that cares for the people and can protect the public purse. He also bemoaned the politics of insults and called for decency in the media landscape. On the issue of politics of insults, for us at AFAG we believe that all media houses in this country have somewhat of a decency standard where any panel member, any host, any producer if you flout that law you will be punishable, he suggested. He further impressed upon leaders and supporters of the various political parties especially the NPP and the NDC to be civil in their utterances. I am not sure this politics of insults where young men, young politicians resort to insulting the elderly just for the fact that they have presented themselves to serve this country; I think we should rise above that.
