It is very interesting the spate at which members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) are rushing to acquire properties as though judgement day is tomorrow and everybody would render account on the number of buildings each of them has and which is the most beautiful of them all.
The latest to be discovered by the Daily Searchlight newspaper is a bravura mansion belonging to no less a person than the Mayor of Accra, Mr. Alfred Oko Vanderpuije. The Mayor who finds pleasure in demolishing the buildings of others and has made that his topmost priority in the capital, without shame, has been bold enough to put up one of the most luxurious mansions in the nation�s capital.
Whereas his activities have rendered thousands of people homeless and jobless, Mr. Vanderpuije has built his plush three-storey mansion and another one storey underground at the peak of McCarthy Hills; a suburb of Accra. The mansion is like a shining star in the dark. Its beauty and quality alone outshines all other buildings in the area. The building is found just adjacent the famous Hill View Hotel on the rocky mountains of Accra. The edifice which was started in 2009 was abandoned at window level for more than 2 years. Work vigorously began again in September, 2011 and in less than 5 months the building has grown like maize planted in the rainy season.
When the Searchlight newspaper visited the construction site last Saturday, it was realized that all exterior works apart from painting has been completed and serious interior works were ongoing. Daily Searchlight�s investigations have revealed that labourers working on the Mayor�s mansion are all transported from the central Accra. At the close of work each day, a vehicle bearing the logo of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) conveys the labourers from the Hills to their unknown locations in Accra.
The last time the Mayor was seen at the site was on Wednesday, January 17, 2012 between the hours of 5:30pm and 6:00pm in his black Toyota V8 Land cruiser with brown and gold designs.
