Akufo-Addo Cant Take Care Of His Own Backyard...As Kyebi Hospital Deteriorates

Since it is true that charity begins at home, one would have expected that NPP flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, will show the world that he has what it takes to be President of Ghana by taking care of a very important establishment like the Kyebi District Hospital located within his constituency. Alas, that has not been the case. A visit to this very huge hospital that serves the town of Kyebi and its environs reveals very shocking deteriorating facilities at the hospital. The lavatory for members of staff of the hospital is the village type of toilet. That for patients too is the same. The bathroom for patients is an eye-sore. The hospital has only one doctor, a Dr. Okyere who is also the District Medical Head and because he has to combine his work at the hospital with administrative duties, he comes to the hospital once every three days or only when there is an emergency. The result is that the hospital has been recording high mortality rates, compelling many people to turn to other hospitals in nearby towns. This has led to the hospital spotting empty wards as no one wants to be admitted there. Out-patients sometimes have to wait for six hours to see the Medical Assistants that have been acting as doctors. Ironically, the hospital began deteriorating at a time Nana Akufo-Addo was the MP for the constituency in which it is located. In fact, the hospital is situated in his home town. The big question is why he has not been able to help take care of the hospital when he was the MP for the constituency. What did Akufo-Addo do for the twelve years that he was the MP with his share of the Common fund? How could he not help the Kyebi Hospital even after he became the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice and later the Minister of Foreign Affairs? Does Nana Akufo-Addo not care about the facilities at the hospital where his kin and kindred go to? Does he not care that pregnant women who dash there to go give birth are likely to lose their own lives or that or their babies? If the NPP flag-bearer cannot take care of a hospital in his hometown, and if he cannot help his own people - how can he take care of Ghana and the numerous facilities it has? His apologists often boast that he has a good public record which includes leading demonstrations. But, even he ought to realize that being a President is not about organizing demonstrations. It is about putting food on the table of the people and providing them with security, shelter and access to quality medical help.
