Adenta MP Crawls In Parliamment

MEMBERS OF Parliament Thursday witnessed an unusual scene in the countrys legislature when the MP for Adenta, Kojo Adu Asare crawled like a baby behind the tables in the house to avoid being sacked for improper dressing. Members could only see the movement of chairs behind the tables as the Adenta MP crawled from one end to another to avoid being caught, generating humour and laughter in the house. Mr. Adu Asare went into hiding after Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei, MP for Old Tafo singled him out for improper dressing as he typically wore his suit without a tie. Thursday was the second time members had the occasion to alert the speaker about Mr. Adu Asares dress code which they felt was unparliamentary. While the MP was crawling, members of the minority kept drawing the attention of Speaker Justice Joyce Bamford-Addo to him, creating more laughter in the chamber. The speaker had to virtually come to his aid, remarking the mere fact that he was hiding clearly shows his admission of the fact that he has erred. Mr. Adu Asare only came out of hiding minutes after his colleagues from the majority side hurriedly got him a tie to wear behind tables. This was just before Dr. Akoto Osei and his colleagues were getting ready to move to his crawling base and pull him out. Perhaps embarrassed by the incident, Mr. Adu Asare sneaked out of the chamber shortly after his colleagues came to his rescue. The Adenta MP came to parliament last week dressed in similar attire during which members had a heated debate about how lawmakers should dress. Following the debate, Speaker Justice Joyce Bamford-Addo ruled that MPs should either be in full African wear or western attire comprising a suit and tie. However, Mr. Adu Asare flouted the speakers directive, landing himself in trouble.
