7 Burnt To Ashes

Seven members of a family were burnt to death on Sunday at Sefwi Nsonyameye, near Bibiani, in the Western Region, when fire gutted won the three huts in which they were sleeping. Kwabena Kusasi, 42, Ama Kusasi, 34, Yaa Kusasi, 16, Joshua Kusasi, eight, Peter Kusasi, seven, Isaac Kusasi, four and Kwaku Ayita, a physically challenged relative who was staying with the Kusasi family, were all burnt beyond recognition. The cause of the fire is not yet known, but it came after a night of rainstorm and lightning, which some believed might have sparked it. The inhabitants, still in a state of shock are yet to come to terms with the incident. They have expressed surprise about how the fire broke out, since it rained heavily in the area during the night. Some of the residents told the Times that after the rains, they woke up only to find the three huts of the Kusasis had been gutted by fire and when they went closer, they saw the charred bodies. Deputy Superintendent of Police Peter Ofori, Juabeso District Commander, who led a team to collect the charred bodies to the hospital declined any comments, since he case is being investigated.
