EC Will Conduct Biometric Verification On Election Day - Afari-Gyan

The Chairman of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, Dr Kwadwo Afari-Gyan has given the assurance that, biometric verification would be conducted on election day in December. Speakling at a roundtable discussion on the, �Biometric Voters Registration and Verification System in West Africa: Nigeria�s Experience and Ghana�s Perspective� in Accra Wednesday, he noted that concerns about verification of the new voting system had been taken up by the Commission. He said more than 23,000 equipment are being procured by the EC for the verification of voting in the December general elections. One verification equipment will be given to each of the more than 22,000 polling stations whiles an extra one will be provided to each of the 230 constituencies to cater for any possible breakdown of the equipment on voting day. The procurement of the equipment is expected to cost the nation about $30 million, Dr Afari-Gyan said. With this in mind he said it was now certain that the EC would conduct verification system for voting in the 2012 elections.
