BANNED ATTACKER of Aduana Stars, Bernard Don Bortey, says he is ready to visit any shrine to assert his innocence in a case where he has been accused of beating a referee during a game. The ex-Hearts forward has been banned for one season by the GFA for allegedly manhandling Referee Saddat Ibrahim during an FA Cup contest between Aduana Stars and King Solomon. Bortey said he did not attack the referee for sending him off in the game which has resulted in his ban from the game for one season. The speedster said he did not do anything to merit a straight red card from Referee Ibrahim so he raced to the match official and demanded to know what his offence was. Bortey explained further that he only held the hands of the referee, stressing that he never manhandled the referee as allegedly. The Aduana Stars player noted that the Disciplinary Committee of the GFA invited him sometime ago to their offices and stated his offence to him, noting, �I was not allowed to state my side of the case.� Bortey said the members of the then Disciplinary Committee, after reading the facts of the case to him, only told him to go, noting that he was a victim of circumstances. Still claiming his innocence, he said, �I am prepared to go anywhere including a shrine with Referee Ibrahim and even pour a libation or any other sacrifice to display my innocence.� Bortey however stated emphatically that the ban would not have any adverse effects on his career. �I am that I am,� the winger stated, stressing further that nobody could change him. Asked whether he would protest against the sanction, Bortey said he was the player of Aduana Stars so he was expecting his employers to do that on his behalf.
