EC Creates 2,000 New Polling Stations For Biometric Registration

The Electoral Commission has announced the creation of 2,000 new polling stations across the country to augment the existing ones as well as ease the long wait in queues. This would bring the total number of polling stations in the country to 23,000. The Electoral Commission announced this when it met with its district officers in preparation for the biometric registration exercise which would be undertaken soon. The Electoral Commission told Citi News in an interview after the pilot run of the biometric exercise that the entire exercise was successful. The acting Public Affairs Director of the EC, Christian Owusu Parry said on Accra-based Joy Fm that the creation of the new polling stations is to ensure the reduction in the length of queues so that more people can register on time. Were introducing a new form of registration and its quite time consuming so wed want to ensure that the process is quickened so that people dont have to wait too long in the queues, he added. March 24 has been set as the date for the nationwide registration of the biometric exercise.
