President John Mahama has sworn in Dr. Henry Kofi Wampah as the Governor of the Central Bank tasking him to check the seeming dollarization of the economy by the business community.
President Mahama further urged the new governor to ensure that Ghanaians respect the cedi as the currency for transaction in the country and to also ensure its stabilization.
"The cedi has remained relatively stable but we need to still work to protect that stability and make sure that the cedi acts in a predictable manner both for the interest of the economy and for investors who want to invest," the president said at the swearing-in ceremony which took place at the Flagstaff House Thursday.
It was witnessed by the Vice President, Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur, who is the immediate past governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG).
On his part, the new BoG boss gave the assurance that he will do everything possible to further strengthen the economy and promised to ensure that the government achieves the objectives of the Better Ghana Agenda.
