The Volta Region has been a faithful wife to the National Democratic Congress since 1992 and beyond. The region has never disappointed the opposition party in all elections held since 1992.
It is safer concluding that her love for the party is unblinking. Her fidelity towards the husband, the National Democratic Congress is undeniable.
Despite this show of affection, love and long years of faithfulness to the party, the love has been unrequited on the part of the man.
The National Democratic Congress has shown in many ways that it does not hold the wife (Volta Region) in high esteem. The party remains thankless despite the love shown it by the region.
First and foremost, though the region has unflinchingly supported the party all these years, there is very little to show for it in terms of development. The Volta Region remains one of the most under-developed regions in the country despite the fact that the P/NDC has been in power for about 28 years.
The Mahama era saw an upgraded version of neglect of the region and its developmental needs. Their roads have not been motorable since time immemorial. Other social amenities were left unattended to.
There is absolutely nothing to show for the loyalty the region has shown to the party in the arena of infrastructural development. Their portions of the Eastern Corridor roads were to be constructed and for eight years, nothing was done on the roads.
When the NDC lost the 2016 general elections and there was the constitutional mandate for the then Majority to assume the Minority position as the new numbers demanded, James Klutse Avedzi, the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee and a member of the Business Committee, Trade, Industry and Tourism Committee and the Committee of Selection Committee was in a pole position to annex the Minority Leader position.
However, machinations from the Northern Caucus of the National Democratic Congress led by former President John Dramani Mahama scuttled the beautiful dream Avedzi and the other Members of Parliament who hail from the Volta Region nurtured.
In the end, the son of the land, the native of the Volta Region had his dream shattered as the position was given to Haruna Iddrisu, a member of the Northern Caucus of the party.
Apart from the general neglect suffered by the Volta Region in the hands of the NDC and the scheme hatched to deny James Avedzi the position of the Minority Leader, another episode has happened to fortify the belief that Voltarians in the opposition party have been maltreated and there appears to be no end in sight.
The NDC went to the polls to elect its national leaders. Some stalwarts from the Volta Region positioned themselves to take the frontline slots. Dan Abodakpi contested as chairman, Anita De-Soso went for Organizer, Koku Anyidoho went for the General Secretary position and Fred Agbenyo would make a dash for the National Communications Director position. Sadly enough, all the four contestants lost. They lost not because they did not stack up to expectations, but they lost because Mahama wanted them to.
It would be wrong to espouse the point that Mahama does not hold sway in the scheme of things as far as the NDC is concerned. He commands lots of supporters within the rank and file of the party, and this fact was used heavily against the four Voltarians.
Using his influence in the party, former President Mahama handpicked his favourites which excluded the four key persons from the Volta Region. He supported Samuel Ofosu-Ampofoh as chairman, Joshua Akamba as organizer, Asiedu Nketia as general secretary and Sammy Gyamfi as communications director to the detriment of Dan Abodakpi, De-Soso, Anyidoho and Agbenyo.
The writings of this scheme to eliminate the influence of Voltarians in the frontline of the party were on the wall right from day one. Many a political pundit saw this and raised eyebrows but nothing was done by those who could do something about it.
It has been speculated in certain circles that former President Jerry John Rawlings has been regaining the influence he lost on the Volta Region, and that is seen to be scary to the Mahama team. To curtail the resurrection of Rawlings to the political limelight, the umbilical cord (Volta Region) must suffer extinction, hence, why the four were voted out.
In all these, what cannot be doubted is the fact that former President John Mahama and his NDC have sent the Volta Region on the path of oblivion. The owners of the party have been ejected from the very land they gave birth to. The Volta Region has been bundled, tied and shipped into the Keta Lagoon irrespective of how loyal it has been to the NDC.
The NDC’s inhumanity towards the Volta Region is extremely painful. The servant has become the master whereas the master has been relegated to the island of perdition.

Northerners and voltarians we are tribal people. Everything about us is tribalism. The Gas are also learning this our ***barred word***. Look at the akans, they don't complain even it the position is for a foreigner. Check if voltarian gets a position or job he will make sure that all his people are there. This same thing goes to the Northerners. Ghana without us (voltarians and Northerners) would bi a better place to live in.
'No stronghold' syndrome has caught up with them. Its up to them.
Fear most? He was there when npp beat ndc with a margin of more than 1million votes. The mother of all defeats, unprecedented in history of ghana elections. ndc people has a mind set, which lack analytical brainstorm. They voted for him bcos they thought npp fear him, laughable!
Ei, ndc is chasing Voltarians into Togo? fear delegates.
@ Armando...Please listen to yourself when you speak. This is what Rawlings told you people but due to lack of wisdom you people don't understand. come with facts and lets debate. Till then please deal with your problems. A vote against the Voltarian candidates is a clear indication that the NDC sees the Voltarians as not good enough to lead the party. You can pretend that everything is alright but oneday your own people will expose you. Already some voltarian youth have started demonstrating. I'm glad free SHS is here, in the next 10years we will see in this country which people NDC will be able to deceive again.
Have you people forgotten it is not the NPP that brought this up. It was Anita Desoso, so why blame NPP and not Anita Desoso?
I don't understand what you want to achieve with this article? is the NDC looking for competent people to run the affairs of the party or they just want to fulfil tribal sentiment. The party is for Ghanaians and as a matter of fact any tribe member in Ghana who is competent enough is entitle to contest any position in the party when the need arise. Those your so called voltarians who contest the election known it from day one that, in every election there is going to be only one winner, if you win or lose you accept it in good faith. what you are doing you are rather making things worse for your so call voltarians who lost harder to work with the party. Ghanians are now more discerning more than ever, they want results not propaganda and the world will not come to an end because your so called volta folks lose election. if you are being paid by NPP to throw dust into our eyes it will not work. please return their money back before delta force come after you...….
You see why you lost. And you will lose again anytime and anywhere because I never finds anything thing sensible in your discourse on radio or when interviewed. And look at your illiterate comments after a defeat which it isn’t only voltarians in the NDC party. Am voltarian myself and is ***barred word*** statement.
And you lost heavily. A vote for Mahama will have him return the Ashanti Region bauxite deposit to his brother.
I hope, Mahama has covered his tracks well, because he is going to be exposed of all his evil deeds. Now we will know what happened to Attah Mills. Let the leaks begin, Mahama has bitten what he cannot chew, by sidelining the Ewes, he is finished all his corrupt practices will be exposed.
