The Public Relation Officer of the Education Ministry, Mr Vincent Ekow Assafuah has described as “unfortunate” a campaign by some learned individuals to kick against the draft of Public Universities Bill by the Ministry of Education.
Political Science lecturer at the University of Ghana, Prof Yaw Gyampo, has vowed to resist what he says are attempts by the government to deny public universities academic freedom.
Prof Gyampo says his preliminary reading of the proposed law points is an attempt by government to control the administration of public universities.
But Ekow Vincent in an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’ said government's intention of the bill is to update the countries Universities Act into a modern one.
“The laws governing universities are outmoded and the laws of various universities differ from each other,” he said.

Vincent, stop this ***barred word*** posturing. Each of the unis were set up for a specific purpose so you cannot purport to have a common law for them. This intended state capture of NPP is repugnant. Some of us are NPP die-hards but to be fair, even the NDC, which is not friendly to the intellectual community, they did not go on this tangent when we harassed them
