Residents in Achimota and its environs are threatening to embark on a demonstration if the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) does not clear the huge pile of refuse behind the Achimota new station.
The unbearable smell from the refuse extends as far as Dworwulu, Abelenkpe, West Legon and surrounding areas.
According to the residents, they fear there will be an outbreak of an epidemic if the authorities do not deal with the situation.
A resident who spoke to Citi News appealed to the authorities saying, we are appealing to the authorities to come and clear it other than that, we will go on a demonstration; we cant stand this. I cant even breathe. We are dying, we are really dying.
Another also complained that the scent is very, very terrible. You cant even breathe well and so I am pleading with the authorities, the Mayor, the Assembly man at Achimota; we are begging them to do something about it. I have very small children.
