The tone of the dismissal letter of the Chief Executive of Cocobod issued by the Executive Secretary to the President is appalling, retired diplomat K.B Asante has said.
The letter signed by Nana Asante Bediatuo gave Dr Opuni up to the end of Friday, 13 January, to leave office.
According to the letter, dated Thursday, January 12, Dr Opuni “ceases to hold office as CEO of Cocobod upon assumption of office of President Nana Akufo-Addo”.
He is, therefore, expected to hand over office documents and property by the stipulated date.
However, Mr Asante, who was Secretary to Ghana's First President Dr Kwame Nkrumah, holds the view that “the letter is not polite. It is not nice…I don’t like the tone of the letter and those who wrote it should know better…it is not Ghanaian”.
He told Kwadwo Asare Barfour Acheampong (KABA) on Asempa FM's 'Ekosi Sen' talk show on Friday, January 13 that even if the Cocobod boss belongs to another political party, he has served the nation for so long, and, so, “there should be a letter thanking him for his work,” which would also state that in view of the change in government, he should vacate office by “such and such time and that he should hand over to this officer”.
He explained that in the Ghanaian culture, even if one wants to insult an official, you do that in a nice way.
“It should be a nice letter. …When we were asked by Nkrumah to do things, we did it as Ghanaian custom demanded”.

What is Mr. Asante saying? is he behaving like the ostrich come on.....Opuni should have been given two hours to quit. Ghanaians do respect our culture, but a character like Opuni who thinks he lives in the world of the communist should not be treated softly.it been too long I heard of you now that Opuni is fired you are talking, give us a break.
Kweku Baprui Asante, you have abbreviated your name ostensibly to hide your northern ancestry. You are considered a Ga because your mother hails from La.You were the brain behind the humiliation of ex Prez kuffuor in the 2009 office saga.please do not comment on matters that you have no idea about. Being an elderly statesman does not mean you are a repository of knowledge or wisdom. You were invited once in 2006 to the council of State where you openly said you knew nothing much about Ga customs and traditions yet you will be on radio granting interviews everywhere and feeding gullible listeners with cow dung. Please keep quiet for Nkrumah did worse .
Give us a break. You are such an indisciplined elder who must know better. Your residence has breached a road reservation and you must be ashamed of yourself. When such indisciplined older people who must set good examples open their mouths and put their toes in, it is disgusting. Ma yen ngwen aaba. You are of questionable substance but due to the scarcity of educated people, mediocre people like you abounded so Nkrumah had to fall on you. Why don't you go to your northern region ancestry.
Am not surprised at all why K b Asante is saying that. If you could remember he was one of those who were saying I support JM during 2012 general election. Shame on you.
This KB Asante guy was the leader of Ga Dangme youth spearheaded by Prince Derrick Adjei to frustrate and humiliate Kufour over office building on Ga land. Today his is talking about tone of a letter. The letter should have concluded " pack you garbage and F u c .k o f f
Aaaaa Nana KB, who should thank Opuni and for what? This intimidative and corrupt person? He did not serve cocobod and Ghana but himself, Mahama and family. The letter is even too gentle for my liking. Pls Nana spare us ooooo. People are relieved so pls, pls, pls. Opuni did not respect anybody to deserve respect, period.
Nana KB, Opuni's style of management in cocobod was very very apalling than the tone of the letter sacking him. He should have been sacked long ago but because he was working for the former President and his family. Opuni did not respect anybody in the cocoa industry including the Board Chairman. Do you know the mental torture some members of staff went through during his tenure? Some people were even expecting that they sack him immediately the election results was announced. He is part of the cause of the defeat of the NDC. Pls people in the cocoa industry are happy so leave us alone and let him go. He doesn't deserve any sympathy from anybody.
Nana KB, you and your nkrumah were not nice to anybody except your cpp guys. To hellllllll with your talk-shop. You talk too much.
Uncle K B is a seasoned diplomat and statesman is absolutely correct, we are not in a military era.. politeness and diplomacy is the key.. who does he hand over...You thank the person, follow with the sentence given and politely ask to hand over to so so .... How does he hand over in a day? I am an international public servant and this is not correct, the Bediatuo should know better, vendetta does not help, Public/Civil Service should be apolitical
Thank you for whom? I don't think you appreciate the mess he caused during his time at FDB and CMB.
