All fuel stations sited at unapproved locations across the country would be demolished, Boakye Agyarko, Minister of Energy, has said.
According to him, the time has come for state institutions tasked to monitor the compliance of rules and regulations by fuel stations to review those permits issued to those individuals.
Speaking on day two of the National Policy Summit which started on Monday May 15, Mr Agyarko said: “They have all the permits including the district assembly permits. Now the man has the permit, procured by whatever means we cannot tell. But we have to come back to common sense and insist that there are certain zones within which we will not allow the siting for such dangerous facilities.
“And it comes back to enforcement of rules… I think it is an issue we have to do something about drastically and now.
“Therefore, I have had discussions with NPA and we will go down the chain and review all these matters in terms of how the licences and approvals were given. It should be possible to also begin to dismantle stations that are dangerously located.”

that is the kind of tough news we want hear. kudos mr. minister
WE ARE WITH YOU ESPECIALLY THE NEWLY OPENED ONE AT UPS. IT IS DANGEROUSLY LOCATED WITH CHURCHES, RESTAURANTS, HOMES, HOSTELS, AND PRIVATE HOMES. THAT IS THE WORST PLACE TO PLACE A GAS STATION. THE UPS STUDENTS TRIED TO STOP THE OPENING OF THAT STATION, BUT FOR SOME STRANGE REASON THEY LOST AND NOW THE STATION IS IN SERVICE. THAT STATION IS A DISASTER WAITING TO HAPPEN AND WHEN A DISASTER SHOULD HAPPEN....GOD HELP US! THE LOCATION WILL MAKE THE CASUALTIES UNCOUNTABLE. PLESE CLOSE THAT ONE UP. THAT IS NOT A RIGHT PLACE FOR A GAS STATION TO BE SITUATED. I THINK GHANAIANS WILL SUPPORT YOU ON THIS DECISION BECAUSE THE EXPLOSIONS OF GAS STATIONS SITUATED AMONG HOMES AND BUSY AREAS HAS BECOME RAMPANT DUE TO GR....EE...D OF THESE SE...LFI....SH LEADERS WE HAVE. CHANGE HAS COME AND WE ARE EAGERLY WAITING TO SEE SUCH. GOD BLESS GHANA AND GOD BLESS OUR WISE AND SELFLESS LEADERS WHO THINK OF GHANA AND ITS PEOPLE AND NOT THEIR POCKET AND STOMACHS.
Sharp!
Great idea. People are being burned alive because of these gas stations being located in illegal areas. I think this must be done well so that nobody feels 'witch hunted' We have people selling propane gas and petrol in residential areas which are not built for that kind of business. Petrol in underground tanks, is seeping to drinking water.
