The Christian Council of Ghana has urged President Akufo-Addo to be bold and declare Ghana’s stance on homosexuality.
According to the Council, Ghana is totally against the legalization of homosexuality thus the President must not surrender to the whims and caprices of the international community.
This comment follows an indication given by President Akufo-Addo that the country's position on homosexuality might change if there is pressure from advocacy groups.
Speaking to Aljazeera’s Jane Dutton the president said: "this is a social, cultural issue, I don’t believe that in Ghana so far, a sufficiently strong coalition has emerged which is having that impact on public opinion that will say ‘change it, let’s now have a new paradigm in Ghana. At the moment, I don’t feel, I don’t see that in Ghana there is that strong current of opinion that is saying this is something we need to deal with. It is not so far a matter that is on the agenda...”
However, General Secretary of the Council, Rev Dr. Opuni Frimpong finds the President's position worrying
According to him, such remarks would encourage gay groups to start lobbying and put pressure on Ghana to legalize it.
The Council General Secretary has therefore challenged President Akufo Addo as compared to the late former President Atta Mills to set the records straight to send a strong signal to any group wanting to lobby for the legalisation of homosexuality.
“He [late Mills] was very exact and that is what we want to hear from our leaders. Maybe I didn’t hear him well, so somebody should come and explain to us exactly the policy direction of this government as far as same sex marriage is concerned, it will help us...somebody needs to be very clear that we don’t need pressure to change. We want to keep what is good for us, even if we are poor" he said.

Nana should not even think of legalizing gayism in Ghana. the majority of Ghanaians both Muslims and Christians are against it. we would rather stay poor than be rich and disown by God. remember all that God has done for Ghana. protecting us from wars and diseases. Mr. president please be careful. the Christian council should put pressure on him to declare his stance. this is not the time to entertain this devilish act i our beloved Ghana. Nana am highly disappointed in you.
NANA got it all wrong in answering this gay issue. Late Prof. Mills was bold and emphatic when asked the same question. Nana come again.
Am afraid the future of Ghana in the hands of Nana Addo. Nana is now teaching/telling these gay activist what to do, thus to make their voice heard and once they echo well enough to the minds of Ghanaian he Nana Addo will legalise gayism. Ahhh I weep For Ghana in the Nana's hands.
Good point but i Hope they will bold on fake Pastors too
