President Akufo-Addo has announced a GH₵1,750,000 compensation package for families of the seven people shot by the police in Asawase in the Ashanti Region.
Making the announcement at the launch of the Zongo for Peace and Development initiative in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi, President Nana Akufo-Addo said each family will get GH¢250,000.
If you may recall, on July 7, 2018, Police in the Ashanti Region shot and killed seven persons believed to be armed robbers at Manso Nkwanta.
This sparked outrage in Zongo communities in Kumasi with residents insisting the seven were not armed robbers.
Subsequently, a seven-member committee which was set up to investigate the shootings concluded there were no facts to establish that the deceased persons were armed robbers who engaged in exchange of fire with the police.
