Lawyer Francis-Xavier Sosu has condemned the Upper West Regional Police command for the way in which a case involving Ayinbiha Abelinkiira, the 11-year old boy who was set ablaze by a mason, was handled.
Ayinbiha was doused with petrol and set on fire for allegedly spying on a woman in a bathroom by a man only known as ‘oldman’.
According to reports, the police after arresting the assailant, released him because he agreed to an out of court settlement; that is the man agreed to pay for the hospital bills of Ayinbiha in exchange for his freedom.
The parents agreed to this because they were told that pursuing the case in court will take time and will cost them a lot of money; something they don't have.
However, after some time, the man stopped paying the bills of Ayinbiba.
Speaking to this unfortunate incident in an interview on Class FM, Lawyer Sosu said the man after committing such a ‘murderous’ act, should not have been allowed to walk free.
"Why on earth will such a suspect be walking free? I think that the police clearly erred on that occasion. If we continue to act that way, this country will get nowhere because we are creating a situation where people who are rich and powerful can actually offend people and pay for them,” he indicated.

Francis Sosu, you are human right lawyer, please take the case up and stop the media mind game. There is no perfect person in the world. You have your own problem, after telling somebody that you will handle his case on pro-bono basis and after getting Ghc 200,000, you took Ghc 50,000.Is it good to do that.Even those lawyers who handle cases and charge do they charge 25% ?.Exonerate yourself before the police men.
Ghana is a messed up country. I dont see any hope with the current crop of leaders. the buck stops with only ONE man in whom all powers of this land is vested in. I am sorry to say, we are never going to see any end to these non***barred word***. All it takes is this president putting the right people in office and sacking the non performing ones, yet this will never happen because they are all his cronies and family members and he has no respect for Ghanaian just like his predecessors. ***barred word*** Ghana.
Hmmmmmmmm..... I lose hope every time I read or hear of such things. Ghana is sinking very fast paa. From Chinese invasion to contract killings, to acid dousing, petrol dousings and lightening, armed robbery, and the abuse of power by the rich and the corr---upt leaders. Those who do petty crimes like stealing and slapping neighbors are sentenced to years in prison while the most dangerous criminals are let go free because of money. Then we have Adom fm saturating the TV stations with some use----less Indian Soap operas....wow. My heart bleeds for this country daily. God help us.
Why is it difficult for us Ghanaians to understand basic human rights? Why do we have/pay for state attorneys? What is their purpose, talk about ministry for gender and children or whatever it’s named. If these people/offices can serve their mandate, then why should we keep spending tax payer’s monies on them. The state/regional attorney should pick up the case, prosecute the culprit as the child is the property of the province/nation. I strongly agree with lawyer Francis-Xavier that we will go nowhere if we continue to fail to protect the people.
