The death is announced of Kofi Akumanyi, a Versatile Writer and Former Features Editor of the "Daily Graphic", on Sunday November 8, 2009 at the Good Shepherd Hospital, New Weija, Accra. He was 64.
Kofi Akumanyi started his very distinguished journalism career on the "Daily Graphic" in June 1970, after graduating from the University of Ghana, Legon. In 1992, he left Ghana for London where he worked and retired as Editor in Chief at Her Majesty's Central Office of Information, in 2005.
A strong advocate of press freedom that he was, he once contested in an election to represent the Ghana Journalists Association on the defunct Press Commission.
He was a co-founder of the Entertainment Critics and Reviewers Association of Ghana (ECRAG) and also co-founded the Talking Drums Magazine in London.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs Augustina Akumanyi, Deputy Chairperson of the National Commission for Civic Education; 85 year-old mother and three children.
Burial arrangements will be announced later.
