President John Mahama on Monday cut the sod to officially commence the construction of the new three-tier Kwame Nkrumah Interchange in Accra.
The project involves detailed engineering and construction of the old Circle into a three-tier interchange and other ancillary works including drainage, terminals, pedestrian walkways and landscaping.
The Kwame Nkrumah Circle has reached the limit of its capacity to contain the traffic passing through it daily. Over 84,000 vehicles approach the Circle from the arterial roads and other intersections feeding into the Circle daily.
The project, when completed in two years, will effectively and efficiently tackle the traffic congestion challenges currently being experienced, ensure improved drainage and pedestrian safety among others.
