Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, on Wednesday January 18, unexpectedly paid a visit to the Registrar-General’s Department to identify the bottlenecks to acquaint himself with the activities of the state institution, and also to find out its challenges.
Dr. Bawumia interacted with owners of businesses and Ghanaians who were at the Department to register their businesses.
He met a lot of people at the registry who also expressed their frustrations with the “bureaucratic processes” in registering their establishments. According to Dr. Bawumia, the vision of the NPP administration is to make Ghana a “business friendly country” and that dream must begin with the Registrar-General’s Department.
Rwanda is currently ranked the most business-friendly country in Africa.
Speaking later with the acting Registrar General Mrs. Jemima Oware, who was visibly surprised about the visit, Dr. Bawumia noted that, the Akufo-Addo-led administration is hoping to use the East African country’s feat as a “benchmark.” “It was a fulfilled visit and there will be follow-up discussions,” Dr. Bawumia told the media after being briefed about the business registration process.
He served notice there will be more of such surprise visits to other state institutions to make sure “things work in Ghana.”
Dr. Bawumia appealed to officials at the Department to speed up the processes and to do their best to position Ghana as a business-friendly environment. Mrs. Oware complained about the three-month-old state attorneys strike which she said is taking a toll on the process because state lawyers are needed to review people’s applications.

Drain the swamp
WE GHANAIANS NEEDS MORE OF SUCH VISITS, LET IT NOT BE A ONE DAY WONDER, FREQUENTLY PAY SUCH UNEXPECTED VISITS, IN FACT IDENTIFY YOURSELF WITH US, WE VOTED FOR YOU AND NOBODY WILL DO YOU NO HARM, SOMETIME JOIN TROTRO AND TAXI, THIS IS WHAT GHANAIAN, A GOVERNMENT FOR THE PEOPBLE AND OF THE PEOPLE, SO THOSE CORRUPT ACTIVITIES WILL BE MINIMIZED. TELL NANA ADDO TOO TO DO SAME BECAUSE HE WAS ONCE WITH US
Bravo. more grease to the team elbows. God bless you NPP, God bless Ghana. Still, the battle is the Lords'
Hmmmm, I hope and belief there will be drastic change. It takes about 10 minutes to register your company in USA. I do not understand why we can not do that in Ghana. Its all about having an effective website, and all business owners have to do filling each each and pay which will be giving the department and government a lot of money without sweat. We have to do away with the bribes.
Whether the vice presidos visit was wrong or not more of such visit are needed, and for those who dont need them must hide themselves somewhere for the next FOUR YEARS, God willing.
Ghana will work again...the NDC is soo scared of this government success and how serious they mean to work...they know it is an end to them, so they want to play the distraction tactics....
...deja vu...it makes no difference...
We need more of this unannounced visits.... But let the businesses register online..lets have a database for easy monitoring
Ghana will work again
Signs of failure, go and ask Tanzania president who takes nearly every office by surprise, he is now seen as the most tyrant president ever, even sugar has become like gold in Tanzania with people being silenced. these are tactic dictators use which always backfires, same has Bukhari of Nigeria done but look at where he has dragged Nigeria into. All these countries are sinking now, this is wrong move by Bawumia. Even if they are ***barred word*** they would have long since sealed every loop whole. I don't think this is helpful, it will only create enmity and these professionals can sabotage your government if care is not taking. It is wrong to tag them as criminals and visiting them by surprise. Sorry!
