Chairman of Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Monday, 23 January, abruptly “ruled out” Tamale North MP and member of the committee Alhassan Suhuyini from questioning Energy Minister-designate Boakye Agyarko any further after a heated back-and-forth between the two legislators that followed the minority MP’s initial question.
Mr Joe Osei Owusu cut off Mr Suhuyini, who, at the time, was vehemently protesting against the manner in which he was being handled by the chairman after Mr Osei Owusu had intervened to stop him from asking a question pertaining to a money laundering scandal at the Bank of New York where Energy Minister-designate Boakye Agyarko had worked prior to his resignation.
The NDC MP said he was merely trying to demand clarity on the circumstances that surrounded Mr Agyarko’s resignation vis-à-vis the money laundering scandal but the chairman of the committee felt Mr Suhuyini was breaching the rules of the sitting by asking such a question.
The sitting temporarily degenerated into a market square atmosphere until the chairman restored order. While explaining to the committee that the New York branch of the bank had nothing to do with the money laundering scandal that happened in the bank’s UK branch, Mr Agyarko wondered why Mr Suhuyini would attempt to link him, in the first place, to a scandal in which neither his bank branch nor his name was implicated.
Mr Suhuyini was subsequently cut off by the chairman of the committee as he attempted asking further questions and explaining his reasons for asking the first question.
He complained to the chairman that he was “unhappy” about the way he had been treated on the committee by the chairman.
Speaking on the incident, Wa Central MP Dr Rashid Pelpuo told Joy FM the Minority took serious exception to Mr Osei Owusu’s behaviour, since, in his view, he was “autocratic” by “rudely” stopping Mr Suhuyini in his tracks.

I thought we didn't want so called "***barred word*** brigade" in goverment. So what's wrong in digging out any perceived committed criminality and ensuring that the Ghanaian is sincerely served? Let's not ***barred word***, dirty partisan politics blind us, please!!!! Suhuyini should have been allowed to continue and exhaust his questions, period! The chairman, although a fine gentleman, has his Achilles heel-arrogance! and this cost him at DVLA and at Obuasi
Suhuyini think's he can bring his radio Gold nons*nse to parliament. We need intelligent and wise people in Parliament to think big not foooools like these ndc MPs who have been voted to that house out of h*te and e*viness nut not out of nation building. This attitude of this Suhuyini will never make him succeed. I feel sorry and pity for people who continue to vote for the ndc to bring incompetent and block headed fuuuuls to parliament. Of what use is Sampson Ahi,Oti Bless, Muntaka Mohammed etc being voted to parliament? Are some people not serious with their future? Where did these people carry their lives before coming to parliament? I thank God my constituency MP is a young intelligent and wise guy who command respect. He had his PHD abroad and is serious with his work, thank God since the beginning of the 4th republic my constituency always get the best MP, even the first MP who was ndc was good and commanded respect and I'm proud of them all. NDC is disgusting I'm happy the grassroots of the ndc have gone back to show solidarity to Former President Rawlings. That's a good move to get rid of these idi*ts who have occupied the ndc and destroying it. Rawlings wouldn't have allowed these people to represent his party in Parliament to ridicule themselves.
He thinks the committee is an extension of radio gold. He was still in the propaganda mode so had to be stopped in his tracks. Saaaagyewaaaa!
Do you think being a member of the committee is an opportunity for you to tell the members of your constituency and for that matter Ghanaians that you can talk. please i will advice you to take your time and learn. its not about journalism okay. Its not about show off. Making noise doesn't make you good but lets get some sense out of your questions. If some people furnish you with those stories try and know the details before you flex with it. Now you want to cry like a baby. You see your level?
You should be stopped 100 times if you continue to ask uuseeless questions which has no value to Ghana. Propaganda on radio is different from Parliament. Very embarrassing!
pls dont come and give as excuses when dumsor starts...prez mahama is no longer in charge hence we dont expect any blame games outchea else we'll kick u out just as we did to the past gov...we wish u well
You go and face the vetting committe...speak big big english and their supporters say 'he's a very competent man'...lol...africans, now we measure competence by the kinda english the person speaks? thats why there are a lotta LAFA's in the system
Energy Minister-designate Boakye Agyarko is a fraudster. He money laundering expert. he couldn't go back to US since he return to Ghana. trust me he would be arrested as soon as he returns to US
I guess the npp also couldnt get over their painful loss in the 2012 elections hence their inability to appear at the vetting committe? Lol....Suhuyini is really making these guys uncomfortable ampa
i guess u're the gullible follower.. u these npp folks sometimes act as 'zombies'...u cant even think on your own..u guys defend whatever ur political leaders do even when they come out publicly to apologise('plagia' on my mind..lol).. u think vetting is small biz or a fun fare? its a place for probing questions and not a 'can u cook'kinda questions centre...u guys are a special breed of 'zombies' ampa
