A man caught with a locally-manufactured pistol and five live cartridges has been sentenced to two years imprisonment by a Kumasi Circuit Court.
Kwame Frimpong, 22, was additionally ordered to pay a fine of GHC500.00 or spend another 12 months in prison.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge of illegal possession of firearm.
Police Chief Inspector Felix Akowuah told the court, presided over by Mrs. Patricia Amponsah, that the convict was arrested on March 09, at about 2200 hours, near the Asafo Interchange.
A police officer and three community police assistants were on patrol duty, when they saw Frimpong carrying the pistol wrapped in a duster.
He attempted to flee on seeing the team but he was prevented – he was seized with the gun and the live cartridges.
