A member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, has asked Ghanaians not to oppose the payment of the TV licence fee.
“We should not be averse to paying TV licence. I think it is an important good and can help GTV serve us and their staff much better,” he posted on Facebook.
Mr Otchere-Darko, however, disagreed with the establishment of special courts to enforce the payment.
In his opinion, GTV should “concentrate more on building the infrastructure that can help them to collect [licence].” “Ask yourselves: when was the last time you received a demand notice at home or in the office over nonpayment of TV licence?” he quizzed.
The reintroduction of the TV licence fee has been met with mixed reactions among the populace. Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo recently granted a request by the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) to establish special courts across the country to deal with persons who fail to pay their TV licence fees beginning Thursday, 4 January 2018.

Does Gabby Watch GTV? Very Boring Station, and they have decided never to change, their old faction television. They can send the entire citizens to jail.
You're very ***barred word*** Okyere Darko, Why don't thinking of your party.
Mr ST U PID DARKO, the tv licence fee will end up in your corrupt pocket so please with chatting ***barred word***...I will never pay for this fee and FU CK YOU VERY MUCH and have a nice day OTCHERE DARKO
***barred word*** man. IS GTV not airing adverts just like all the other channels in the country? If they want to collect that cash GTV should stop all commercial activities.
And for what reason should I pay that fee. What GTV done lately that warrants a fee to be paid to them.
If nana addo and barwumia were bold enough to tell Ghanaians that these are some of the things they would be doing after calling John Mahama wicked and not sensitive to the plight of Ghanaians, I think the NDC would have still be in power, because a lot of us wouldn't have voted against NDC. I just can't understand why nana addo could lie to us that there were enough money in the nation to cater for the needs of Ghanaians but came to rob us of our limited resources. He and his ministers are living in free government bungalows, driving SUVs bought and fueled by the state, the receive millions of cedis every month as salaries. Does it mean we voted for them to come and enrich themselves at our expense and still have the guts to demand fees for us watching television? What benefit do we voters get for voting for these politicians? It's sad. You can't criticize past government of being insensitive and come and do worse. Anyway,if all infrastructural development done by Mahama sent him to opposition then TV licence fee would surely send NPP to the ***barred word*** again.
I AM A USER OF DSTV FOR THE PAST 6YEAR AND PAYS MY SUBSCRIPTION EVERY MONTH, NOW GIVE ME THREE REASONS WHY I SHOULD PAY TV LICENSE AND WHAT FOR? IF MANAGEMENT CAN NOT BE STRATEGIC THINKERS TO BRING ON BOARD POLICY AND STRATEGIES OF IMPROVING UPON THEIR SERVICES AND MAKING COOL MONEY FOR GBC RATHER THEN TV LICENSE LEVY, THEN LET ME RECOMMEND FORMAL DIRECTOR GENERAL OF GBC MR APPEAM DARKO TO COME AND TAKE OVER THE MANAGEMENT OF OUR STATE ASSETS.
