While Ghanaians were mourning the sudden demise of sensational dancehall artiste, Ebony Reigns, the very spot that claimed her life and two others, recorded another accident on the same day, Today can report.
The second accident involving two heavy-duty vehicles reportedly took place hours after the artiste’s jeep had collided with a VIP bus on the Kumasi-Sunyani road on Thursday, February 8, 2018.
Although there were no casualties in the second accident, many residents in the area were left dumbfounded as they described the day in an interview with Today as ‘Black Thursday.’
The two accidents have since been linked to the poor nature of that busy road, which residents have branded as a death trap.
A heap of sand that sits on one part of the two-lane road at Mankraso on the highway reportedly caused the tragic death of the dancehall artiste.
District Chief Executive (DCE) of Ahafo Anor South Joseph Agyeman Dapaah, told journalists that despite the Assembly’s numerous complaints about the bad nature of the road, “nothing had been done to improve it.”
He said, late last year, a contractor left a heap of sand on the road without his knowledge as the chairman of the District Security Council (DISEC).
He was not happy that the Ministry of Roads did not communicate to him about the contract of the road.
“When I tried finding that out, no one said anything to me,” he lamented.
Mr Agyeman Dapaah said the sudden attention being given to the poor nature of the Kumasi-Sunyani road was because a celebrity was among the accident victims.
“Many accidents take place here but there is attention now because it was Ebony,” he said, adding he will liaise with the appropriate bodies to fix the problem.
Meanwhile, Minority spokesperson on Roads, Kwame Agbodza, has blamed the government’s suspension of road projects started by the past regime for the spate of accidents on the roads.
“Making the call to unilaterally suspend ongoing projects was a recipe for disaster,” the Adaklu Member of Parliament said on Joy FM on Friday, February 9, 2018.
He said the abandoned sand on the Kumasi-Sunyani road, which reportedly caused the accidents, was a consequence of the government’s decision, adding that no road was constructed last year.

I don't think Mr. DCE has made sense here at all. He has the power as the DCE to see to the removal of the heap of sand soon after it had caused the first accident. As responsible as he claims to be, he should not have sat down for as many as seven accidents to occur, the sixth of which involved the musician. Who is he blaming now. It was for him to see to the clearance and then the contractor will show up. At that point he could have addressed the contractor whichever way he wanted as the sand was causing accidents. Its too late Mr. DCE. Next time be proactive. the lady's blood hangs on the heads of you and the contractor. God save us.
just shut your ***barred word*** mouth! it is people like you who politicize everything in this country along ndc/npp. We are sick of the likes of you! People just died as a result of the negligence of an erresponzible contractor and you are here trying to defend him. If the contracts were stopped then why did he have to come and drop sand at a very dangerous place which poses danger to live? He did not have sense to know it could result in loss of lives? This contractor will pay for the innocent blood he has spilled through his negligence! And you are here trying to indirectly defend him. I pray a relative of yours becomes the next victim and you will know how painful it is. We must sometimes put politics aside and face the truth because it is only in so doing we can solve the problems!
you want to know why the NPP government stopped the roads construction? is because you people duped the nation by inflating the mount that was supposed to be used so shut your mouth and let's think.
