The Electoral Commission (EC) has served notice to re-open nominations in some electoral areas for aspirants to pick forms due to the low patronage when the nomination exercise took place about a month ago.
The commission explained this was in accordance with Regulation 9(1) and (2) of the Public Elections Regulations 2012, C.I 75, a statement issued in Accra yesterday and signed by Amadu Sully, a Deputy Chairman of the EC in charge of Operation said.
It mentioned the places as Antwiriso electoral area of the Dormaa District in the Brong-Ahafo Region and Bowiri New Kwamekrom electoral area of Biokoye District in the Volta Region, as well as all units where there were no nominations at the end of receipt of nominations in December 2014.
The re-opening of nomination is to give people who may now be interested in contesting the district assembly and unit committee elections in the affected areas the opportunity to file their nominations to contest the elections, the statement said.
Nominations in the areas concerned would close on Saturday, January 17, at 5 pm.
The statement added that prospective candidates may obtain nomination forms from the deputy returning officers (special duties) in the electoral areas concerned or from the district offices of the commission as soon as possible.
It advised the public to listen to street announcements from publicity vans to know the units where nominations are to be reopened.
The public is further reminded that no fee shall be paid for obtaining the nomination forms or filing to contest any of the elections, the notice mentioned.
