The Special Aide to the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party has chided the Minority in Parliament for refusing to credit government on the massive successes achieved in the agricultural sector over the past 18 months.
Andy Owusu believes the Minority should rather give credit to government, especially the Minister for Food and Agriculture for his sterling performance that has seen a massive revamp of the sector.
Reacting to recent Press Conference organized by the Minority in Parliament following the announcement of the new cocoa prices, Andy Owusu said no minister, since the assumption of office of the NPP in January 2017, had consistently improved upon the performance of his or her ministry than Hon. Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto.
He opined that with the introduction of the flagship Planting for Food and Jobs programme, the country has witnessed an all year round supply of food items, thereby making it cheap and affordable for every single Ghanaian.
He said aside from that, Ghanaian farmers are enjoying an unprecedented support from government in terms of supply of quality inputs and market accessibility for produce under the leadership of Hon. Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto.
"Now I can say that Ghanaian farmers are very proud people; they now have the power to negotiate for their produce and are not left at the mercy of middlemen and women thanks to the PFJ programme" He observed.
Andy Owusu also described as frivolous, claims by the opposition legislators that the Minister had made a request to COCOBOD for an allocation of a bungalow as official residence.
"Anyone who knows Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto very well should know that he is not different from his bosom friend the President, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo. They are very conscious of their political actions and will never compromise their integrity " he noted.
According to him, the Minority are being disingenuous, considering the fact that the Minister, throughout his entire political life has conducted himself in a respectable and dignified manner.

@IKE, if the NDC and their sympathizers are calling the performance of the Agric Minister, to have moved agriculture from near 0% growth to close to 10% growth mediocre then how do we call the NDC and Mahama, who took an economy growing at 9% to 3.6%? Definitely incompetent! I now know that the NDC as a party always talks in negative terms. They only praise what is wrong and condemn everything right. Forgot if you see black say white and when you see a sheep say it is a cow? Oyiwa!
Praise mediocrity? No wonder he is a bosom friend of Nana. These days people want to celebrate mediocrity and shun excellence. The result is where we are as a country.
