Central Regional Minister, Hon. Ama Benyiwa-Doe has dismissed assertions by members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) that President John Evans Atta Mills does not walk the talk.
National Womens Organiser of the NPP, Otiko Afisa-Djaba is reported to have asked President Mills to be consistent with his words and actions relative to the issue of "politics of insults".
According to her, the Presidents stance is largely hypocritical on the matter considering the fact that most of his appointees have continually rained insults on the Minority and have been left off without even a reprimand or any form of sanctions.
But in an interview with Shamima Muslim on Citi FMs Eye Witness News, a surprised Ama Benyiwa-Doe countered by saying: I am yet to see any MP who has broken the law in this countryI dont know what she (Otiko) is talking about.
To her, President Mills is always in the clear, having been at the receiving end of some highly condemnable verbal abuse, but has incredibly refrain from hitting back at his detractors.
She accused the erstwhile NPP regime under Mr. Kufuor of failing to sanction even a single member who flouted the law.
However, in a sharp riposte the NPPs National Womens Organiser maintained that by rewarding sharp-tongued NDC members with official appointments, President Mills was indirectly condoning the politics of insults.
I will not go into a catalogue of what people A or people B have done. The point is that, the president did not say what he said in isolation. It is because of the agitation in this nation; the abusive language in our political discourse is too much and so he comes out to sermonize as usual The people who are embarking on this attack why cant the president call them to bring them to book?then you say you want to remove the speck in somebodys eye. There is the need to remove the log in NDCs eye before you we go to the other issues that the president is talking aboutthe people who insults are being rewarded and the President seems to take this good guy, bad guy attitude. Hes the father for all, he is the good guy and doesnt insult anybody but its his ministers who are attacking people and he doesnt do anything about it. It is not good enough for Auntie Ama to say that NPP did it; we are moving forward. The president is the leader and father of this nation, he must lead by example. It is incumbent on him, she said.
Quite naturally, the Central Regional Minister shot back by asking: what is the forward you are moving when people like John Kumah comes out to insult the President? So he (President Mills) should swallow all the insults? she questioned.
