Ashanti Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Joseph Yamin has described the New Patriotic Partys (NPP) demonstration which it dubbed March for Justice, as a flop.
In his opinion the reports of a massive turnout were fabricated.
If a region that has voted for the NPP in an excess of 1.5 million votes, raises no more than 10, 000 people to demonstrate, do you call that a huge crowd? Let the real people on the ground speak to you. It was a flop demonstration, he stated.
The people of the Ashanti Region have come to realize that the NPP lost simply because John Mahama and the NDC were far better and advanced than the NPP. They will have to prepare for 2016 which I believe theyll lose again because of the good works we [NDC], are going to do, he added.
Meanwhile, Public Relations Officer of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, ASP Mohammed Tanko has indicated that the New Patriotic Party (NPPs) executed a peaceful demonstration.
As far as the police are concerned, it was a very peaceful demonstration. We promised that we were going to ensure that things were peaceful. The demonstrators and general public comported themselves very well, no one was attacked so I think it was victory for us all."
Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News, ASP Tanko said even though the public was initially uncomfortable with the idea of a large crowd demonstrating, the demonstrators comported themselves well and nobody was attacked.
However, the only hitch was when the demonstrators were unsure whether to march to the Electoral Commission as a group or allow only the leadership present their petition and as a result no one could march to the ECs office to demonstrate, he stated.
Everything is back to normal and the police are back on their usual patrols and duties whiles demonstrators have retired to their homes and business continues as usual, ASP Tanko added.
