The NDC Member of Parliament (MP) for the Builsa North constituency, Hon. James Agalga, has expressed disagreement with the assertion that, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, the Information Minister is being used as a sacrificial lamb in the Jubilee Falgstaff House saga.
I know Mahama Ayariga has a reputation to protect, he is not a novice in politics. This is not the first time he has found his way in Parliament and for anybody to think that somebody of Mahama Ayarigas caliber would allow himself to be used as a scapegoat, I beg to differ, he said.
The newly appointed Information Minister made headlines earlier in the year when he stated that the President had no acquaintance with Andrew Solomon, a Gay Rights Activist who was a special guest at the launch of My First Coup dtat a book the President wrote whiles in office as the Vice-President.
This piece of information later turned out not to be true and the Information Minister came out to apologize to Ghanaians for the misinformation.
Again, the Hon. MP for Bawku Central who doubles as the Information Minister came out on the name change of the seat of government to apologize and assumed responsibility for the solecism, after the issue had taken center in national discourse following two press statements that were released by the Executive Secretary to the President, Dr. Raymond Atuguba which first gave indications of a change of name from 'Flagstaff House' to 'Jubilee Flagstaff house'.
The Flagstaff House was reconstructed and inaugurated with the name Golden Jubilee House in November 2008.
In January 2009, the Mills-led government refused to relocate to the Presidential Palace and changed its name to the flagstaff house.
The earlier justification of the name change and the subsequent turnaround of that position have led many to believe that Hon. Mahama Ayariga is only being used as a scapegoat to save the face of the government, which initiated the move but rescinded that decision after sensing a backlash of public disaffection.
However, Hon. James Agalga disagrees with this claim, stating that the information Ministry is being run by humans and errors are therefore bound to emanate from the Ministry and in his view, this is one such mistake.
Speaking on Citi FMs Big Issues programme on Saturday, he further explained that the number of times the Information Minister has apologized in recent times does not matter. What is of essence to the Builsa North MP is the mark of humility displayed by apologizing.
For somebody to make a mistake and come back to say I got it all wrong, forgive me, is a mark of humility, he maintained.
