Deputy Communications Minister have been asked to keep quiet following her response to what she calls chauvinist, misogynic, ageist, media assault on her.
The Deputy Minister courted controversy in the media after she gaffed in reading a speech unedited. She was heard through the microphone complaining that she was given an unedited script instead of what she personally edited. The voice as well as the video spread like wild fire in the media, websites and other social networks like Facebook and Twitter.
Responding to this in a statement posted on her facebook wall, Victoria Hammah said: It is unfortunate that the whole matter has been extremely sensationalised and employed as a pretext to re-enforce prevailing prejudice on my character and capabilities to the Ghanaian public.
She said she will not be distracted by the chauvinist, misogynic, ageist media assault on her as Deputy Communications Minister.
However, speaking on his own show, Kokrokoo Tuesday, Kwami Sefa-Kayi advised the Deputy Minister to shut up. He said her comments are too strong; adding, it is not going to help her image but is rather going to worsen the controversy surrounding her.
Don't Blame Anyone For Your Mistakes
Expressing similar views on the same issue and on the same platform, Kwesi Pratt, Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper asked the Deputy Minister not to blame anyone for her mistakes. Her comments were completely unnecessarythe fact that a Minister; you will start reading the speech before you realise that it is not the one you edited is a problem. Before you mount a podium, you should know what you are going to read and go through even before you get there. But if you have made such mistakes, you dont blame others for itif you are a minister, people have the right to criticise you" According to him, such statements do not help government because it is a very challenging period for governmentgovernment can spare us such unnecessary tantrums.
