The National Coordinator of the disgraced state-run youth employment program has noted, GYEEDA can now start afresh after government cancelled the contracts of all service providers deemed unwise.
Kobby Acheampong who was appointed 3 months ago to oversee the restructuring of the scandalised agency is pushing for internal re-organisation and capacity building at GYEEDA οΏ½to do what it should do best - monitor and evaluate these service providersοΏ½.
Government terminated all contracts between the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA) through the Ministry of Youth and Sports on one hand and its service providers, on the other.
Rlg CommunicationsοΏ½ training module, the Asongtaba Cottage Industry and Exchange Programme (ACI&EP) and the Better Ghana Management Services Limited, a subsidiary of Jospong Group, the parent company of Zoomlion, are some of the high profile casualties axed from GYEEDA.
Speaking on Multi TVοΏ½s Joy News channel on Wednesday, Kobby Acheampong, says the move by government οΏ½gives GYEEDA the opportunity to start from the scratch, and to start with a legal framework in place.οΏ½
Government will be passing a GYEEDA law, a lack of it, has been what critics and commentators on the scandal at GYEEDA say was an incentive for wrongdoing.
οΏ½Currently a draft bill is in the process of being drawn. We have gone through a mock reading between the Attorney-GeneralοΏ½s office, the Ministry of Youth & Sport and GYEEDA...this bill will go to a cabinet subcommittee and make a recommendation to a full cabinet who will also look at itοΏ½, the national coordinator explained
He pointed out, οΏ½once there is a legal framework in place, it tells people you cannot do this, you can do thisοΏ½.
Before the bill heads to parliament to be passed into law, Mr. Acheampong reveals, there will be a stakeholders conference to elicit views from the public to be incorporated into the legislative piece.
