The Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Edward Doe Adjaho has said Parliament is not procrastinating in the passage of the Right to Information (RTI) Bill as perceived by a section of the public.
According to the Speaker, Parliament is rather committed to critical examination of the bill to ensure the passage of a law that will stand the test of time.
The RTI bill aims at giving substance to Article 21( 1) of the 1992 constitution which states that “ all persons shall have the right to information subject to such qualification and laws as necessary in a democratic society.”
The Speaker made the statement in Parliament in his closing remarks to members of Parliament before the house went on recess .
He advised politicians in the country to exhibit maturity as they embark on political campaign towards the December 7th election adding that campaign messages must be devoid of acrimony and insults.
