Ashanti Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Sam Payne has expressed worry over the planned privatization of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
According to the NPP activist, privatizing the utility service provider may spell doom for the fortunes of the country.
The Public Utility Workers Union (PUWU) last Friday directed ECG workers not to attend to official duties for 2 days till the Government of Ghana rescinds its plans to privatize the company through the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA).
The workers were told to withdraw their services, except for emergency cases, from Friday, 2nd September to Monday, 5th September, 2016.
Contributing to a panel discussion on Peace FM's Kokrokoo, Sam Payne believed the government must address the issue as soon as possible in order to avert any repercussions of their actions on the economy.
He wondered why government would plan to leave the administration of ECG in the hands of a foreign company; stressing such decision would adversely affect the utility service provider and supply of electricity across the nation.
