The Campaign Spokesperson of the National Democratic Congress, Joyce Bawah-Mogtari, has dismissed claims that Ghana has retrogressed under President John Dramani Mahama.
“I don’t remember, as I always say, that under NPP for eight years, Ghana was actually a paradise. But look around you today, look at our interventions in transportation, look at our transformation in the sea ports of Ghana, look at the transformation in our road network, look at the elevations in all the key medical facilities we have across the country, look at the new ones coming up, look at the housing infrastructure,” the deputy transport minister said in an interview on Class FM.
Her comment was in response to claims by the NPP that Ghanaians have become poorer under the eight years of the governing NDC administration.
According to Mrs. Bawa-Mogtari, the press conference held by NPP's Boakye Agyarko on Monday was to incite Ghanaians against the establishment.
“It was almost trying to incite Ghanaians against the establishment, almost trying to create the impression that the eight years of the NPP that we all still remember very vividly were eight years of candy and butter running through our taps.
“These were eight years of yellow gallons, of people looking for water on the highways here in Accra and in the rest of the Ghana; these were eight years of a HIPC benefit that only gave us tiny little toilets in the wrong places and you can still go round the country and look at them; this is a government at the time that benefitted largely from debt cancellation and just what did they do with all the funds that were received at the time?.
“This is a former administration that actually received huge investment in the oil sector and you ask yourself where it all went to. Indeed, I recall challenges with water and access to water in portions of Adentan, East Legon, and what have you. All of these failed promises we lived with for eight years under NPP,” she added.
“Indeed, Ghanaians, I always say, are very discerning people. We see an opposition party that is very desperate for power, we see an opposition party that is characterised by a lot of division and disgruntlement, a lot of challenges within their own house, a party that lacks unity of purpose, a party that is just so desperate and will throw anything at anybody just because they want power.”

Madame is good for you and your family you have your bread buttered you are a campaign PRO and a deputy minister your husband the CEO of FDA good for you. The masses out there fills the suffering. As for desperation we know who is desperate going round sharing money for vote.In thee he will be a one term president in the history of Ghana for bad leadership that is haunting your boss. As for that your slogan of division in the NPP it has lost its relevance the NPP in more united now than even 2000 when we were voted into Govt.
I am very surprised. Can anybody in NDC point to a single Ghanaian company that has been able to make a profit of two million dollars? But here we are NDC was able to build a headquarters at two million dollars. Is NDC a company? This and other issues are real and some of us think this government does not deserve another term
sorry madam, but the foundation to paradise was laid. sadly your regime only succeeded in damaging whatever kuffour left behind and that is why you need to be voted out. good morning
Its good to read comments from sane Ghanaians. Bob Marley said "he who feels it, knows it". We are feeling the pinch and we sure know that John Mahama is incompetent. Borrow to pay debt? Which thriving business does that? Kuffour opened our eyes. We will for ever appreciate his little gains in very trying times the world over.
I believe that your Government have had more resources and could have built on the little gains that Kuffour made. Ghana was not paradise under Kuffour, however, looking at the economy Jerry left messed up, Kuffour did his best to lay a good foundation. All NDC needed to do was to build on the gains but what do we see? Madam, can you look into the eyes of Ghanaians and tell us how much the government has got in terms of resources and tell us whether this infrastructure is commensurate. Look at how you NDC guys some of whom had barely finished national service have fed fat on the poor tax payer. You politicians always talk as if we the citizens are ***barred word*** and cant think. Stop annoying us with some of these unintelligent talks.
We appreciate the fact that Kuffour's time, Ghana was not a paradise, however the hardship was managable. Unlike your ndc bunch of crooks where the money meant for the government goes into your pockets and the ordinary citizens of this beautiful country suffers . . . . And lastly, I wonder which planet you live, where is the infrastructure that your are talking about? you built it in your pockets and in your bellies. we would therefore appreciate it, you can keep quite and just allow us to vote the one who can manage the economy for us. thank you
