President John Dramani Mahama contravened the gift policy with regards to his decision to accept a ford vehicle gift from a Burkinabe contractor, the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has concluded.
According to CHRAJ, it was satisfied that the gift in question formed part of gifts prohibited under the Gift Policy under the Code of Conduct and that although the evidence show that President Mahama subsequently surrendered the gift to the State, the action nonetheless contravened the gift policy.
That notwithstanding, the commission has also concluded that the President’s action did not amount to accepting a bribe.
This is because, upon evidence, the President submitted the Ford Expedition gift from the Burkinabe contractor, Mr Djibril Freres Kanazoe to the state.
CHRAJ, however, also established that the President was not culpable of conflict of interest, bribery or fraud in relation to the manner in which the vehicle was given to him.
A 78-page extensive decision by CHRAJ on the matter, a copy of which was available toGraphic Online covered the genesis of the saga from the time the story was aired by Joy FM in June this year, to the various media publications, the subsequent petitions by individuals and groups, and the in-depth investigations by CHRAJ, which included the review of audio and video footages and various extensive interviews with ministers and public servants.
It also included recommendations with the Commission concluding that “full or further investigations into the allegations are not warranted. The allegations therefore, are hereby dismissed.”

Well from the commissions report "According to CHRAJ, it was satisfied that the gift in question formed part of gifts prohibited under the Gift Policy under the Code of Conduct and that although the evidence show that President Mahama subsequently surrendered the gift to the State, the action nonetheless contravened the gift policy". What are the consequences of contravening the gift policy? I don't think the commission can unilaterally opine define what this action amounts to. That must be left to the good people of this country.
Was the ford registered as 'used' vehicle? In whose name was it registered? Was duty paid? If yes, why? Ohhhhh.... Ghana!
Its not surprise at all. Know, not a single institution works in Ghana,Chraj contradicting itself. Belgium country was without prime minister for more than 2 years but all the institution works normal to hold the country in check. Please tell Ghanaians you have to protect your job simple. Ghanaian thanks you for job well killed
A crime is a crime so as a sin is a sin, the president has violated the law he has violated it no matter explanation the CHRAJ is given sin no amount of defensive role they will give to defend the president is still wrong. The president has been bribed simple.Even an armed robber kills with a reason, so what are you CHRAJ. is talking about, we are not kids.
This tells us all that people in high office can commit crimes and get away with it and this is bad for our democracy. This is double standards some people are treaded differently by the same law. I think so long as he took the bribe he should face the music whether he gave the car to the state or not. This is a sad day for our criminal justice system.
Nana Addo,,cannot declare his assets cause he does not have non.He can,t include the propeties of his dubious dad,,the papers covering the nima resident is for a nigerian and a muslim ,,who was chased chased out
I personally was not expecting anything else. There is a saying that you dont bite the hand that feeds you and that is exactly what CHRAJ has exhibited
Well when in a bid to get rid Rawlings we drafted a consitituion that gave him power of everything in Ghana except creation of human beings. This is the fruit of such draft. Kuffour saw the excessuive power of the president but did not change it, rather recommended it after he has left or about to leave. There is no way any different verdict could have been reached. The fault is from the framers of the consititution.
