President John Dramani Mahama has said it is easier making promises while in opposition than executing them when in government.
Addressing business leaders in Accra on Monday, November 14, Mr Mahama pointed out that individuals seeking to be voted as president tend to make huge promises only to be hit with reality when they gain the mandate to govern.
Ghana is heading for the polls on December 7 to elect a president for the next four-year term and the main opposition leader, Nana Akufo-Addo, has promised to build a factory in each of the 216 districts in the country if elected into office.
Relating it to the recent presidential election victory of Republican businessman Donald Trump in the US, Mr Mahama stated: “We need to watch world affairs and the way things are playing out with Brexit, with the US elections —Trump’s surprise win against all the polls and all that, and to see how his world view will affect America’s relations with the rest of the world. I believe that things will settle. Often when you are outside government, you have a very simplistic view of things and so you can just say: ‘when I come I’ll do this and I’ll do that, and when you get into office, you find out that the realities are not as easy as you thought it was.”
He continued: “I’ll build a wall here, I’ll do this here, and I’ll put a factory in every district. I’ll build this everywhere. It’s easy for you to say all these things when you are outside government but when you come in and the reality catches up with you, then you realise that things are not as easy.”

Oh yes, Mr President, I agree with you, experience is the best teacher. Very very easy especially when you can't think far. For example, I will reduce the price of fuel drastically, Accra will be clean of filth in my first hundred days, I will build 50 Senior High Schools each year. I will build10 Colleges of Education. I will establish SADA in order to distract the development of the Northern Sector One time premium payment for the NHIS etc.
YOU SAID BUILDING IS EXERCISE OF MEDIOCRITY NOW YOU PLEADING DESPERATE TO GRAB POWER AT ALL COARSE NEMESIS HAS CAUGHT YOU
I sometimes find it hard to believe that this our President ever attended school let alone touted as a communication expert. It is very strange he can open his mouth and talk as an ***barred word***. You have just exposed yourself as a liar because it was easy for you to make those promises when in opposition and seen that you have deceived the citizenry. It has become very difficult for me to accept that John Mahama is somebody who was not ever prepared to govern this nation. A serial caller earns my respect more than this twe*rp. God forgive me of my frustrations.
JDM never cease to amaze me! I will vote for CHANGE
you think everybody thinks like you. that is why you give vain promises .
It's even more desperate to make promises when you're no more the people's favourite and you fear your dubious and corrupt ways will come to light when you're out of power. Reality will dawn on you sooner that later. The NDC has taken Ghanaians for ***barred word***. Pay back time is here!
oh Mr. president the last time i checked u are leading the list of "promisers". in fact when it comes to promising u are the best and honoring those promises u are always found wanting. so boss do not say things like that knowing u lead the pack.
Mr. President by extention your telling Ghanaians that you lied to us to be voted for in 2012 knowing very well that you cant perform. You know what in a class of 40 students, somebody would be first and others could be following and finally a student would be last even though they were taught by the same teachers. The fact that you couldnt perform does not mean somebody like Nana Addo, who is not corrupt, competent and ably supported by Bawumia would not perform. Infrastructure is a must for every government, like you said is an exercise of mediocrity if you tend to talk about it as achievement.
Masa!! is it now that you have realized this? What did you think you were doing in 2008 when you were campaigning? or we shouldn't go there? Otwea!! next time. PA-PAPA-PA =AWAY! PA-PAPA-PA =AWAY! PA-PAPA-PA =AWAY! PA-PAPA-PA =AWAY! PA-PAPA-PA =AWAY! AWAY, TO JOHN MAHAMA & HIS INCOMPETENT NDC ADMINISTRATION. GHANA DESERVES BETTER!
WHAT DID YOU SAY WHEN YOU WERE IN OPPOSITION?
