A member of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) Legal team says the party might challenge the result of the 2016 presidential poll in court.
Abraham Amaliba claimed there were some irregularities recorded in some regions including the stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ashanti Region.
Speaking to Joy News Friday, he said the law governing Ghana’s elections is clear on over voting and the NDC will invoke it.
The Electoral Commission (EC) has been berated for delaying in the declaration of the winner of the 2016 presidential election which has fueled rumours that the Commission wants to manipulate the figures in favour of the NDC.
At a news conference held Thursday, EC boss, Charlotte Osei said the Commission has been unable to declare the winner because some presiding officers are yet to fax their results.
She also said the Commission has discovered cases of over voting in some constituencies across the country and wants to evaluate the results before declaring them.
Provisional results favours NPP Presidential Candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who has been tipped to win by 53.1 percent of the valid votes cast. Mr Amaliba said the NDC's parallel tabulation points to President John Mahama's lead.
He noted the party has noticed some pockets of over voting in some parts of the Ashanti Region.
"We have lawyers collating those Pink Sheets and will handle it at the appropriate time," he said.
According to him, in the manner a football player who handles a ball to the penalty area is punished, the NDC will aim such sanction for the NPP.
"A decision may be taken either to go to court," he said, adding their intention is to promote fair play in Ghana's elections.
"The point is will it change the result if our Pink Sheet say it will not then we will know what to do."

NO AMOUNT OF MANIPULATION, AND I REPEAT, NO AMOUNT OF MANIPULATION CAN CHANGE THE RESULTS. OVER-VOTING IS DETECTED RIGHT AT THE POLLING STATION AFTER ELECTIONS! WERE REPS OF POLITICAL PARTIES NOT PRESENT AT THE COUNTING OF VOTES AND THEY COULD NOT RAISE ALARM OVER OVER-VOTING BEFORE ENTERING THE RESULTS ON THEIR PINK SHEETS? APUU
Any ***barred word*** can go to court- Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia
Can't stop laughing, please do go to court, Get your bumps in court and stop the unnecessary loosing tactics and tension, we are tied of you tufraffs.
Am not surprise this man is a lawyer of ndc. If u are not criminal hardly will you associates yourself harden criminals. So they can now define over voting? Whose definition are they going to use,is that of Mr.Aseidu Nketsia which was accepted by J.Atuguba or the one of Dr.Mud that the same justice rejected? You people can go to court after all according to Aseidu Nkatsia any idiotic can go to court. So u people are now ***barred word*** or?
Why do they want to hold on to the executive at all cost? Because of the DIRT that will be uncovered!
It's amazing to hear such an argument. The Ashanti Region is known to be the strongest hold of the NPP and I believe this argument is fueled by sheer hatred on your part.
Thought u said this morning that u are wining so now are u trying to tell us uve realised u have lost the case. Take it to court since atuguba will be there and surely NPP will face u there since this no be first time. but they cant use that to counter the money we go take from woyome. Ketu ur world bank made u bankrupt
Deus locutus est.(God has spoken)
