Former Chief of Staff, Mr Julius Debrah has revealed that the imported V8 cars alluded to DAILY GUIDE story culled by Peacefmonline.com are for the Judicial Service.
"They are not for the Executive," Mr Debrah is reported to have said.
Communications Minister forwarded the Chief of Staff's rejoinder to Peacefmonline a short while ago.
The Chief of Staff's clarification is in sharp response to a misleading story which sought to suggest that President Mahama's Government is clearing vehicles at the port for purposes unknown.
According to the newsitem as published by DAILY GUIDE Friday, "41 brand new V8 engine Toyota Land Cruiser vehicles have arrived at the Tema Habour scheduled to be cleared by the outgoing Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) government with just a day for a change in government".
The report indicated that "the vehicles arrived at the Tema Habour four days ago, raising concerns about who may have imported them into the country at this time and for what purpose they were brought in."
"Checks by DAILY GUIDE indicate that they were brought into the country by the outgoing NDC administration and a letter from the presidency, the Flagstaff House, had been issued for them to be cleared.
According to sources, Customs officers were confused as to whether the vehicles should be released or not since they are exempted from duty.
The officer-in-charge at the Port with the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Assistant Commissioner, Confidence Nyadzi, told DAILY GUIDE that he was acting on instructions from the outgoing government until there is a counter directive."
But the Chief of Staff has clarified that what Government did for the Judicial Service is basically to facilitate clearance from the port by ensuring exemption of various fees and charges.

Why not buy something cheaper for the Judiciary? We could get 4 VW Passats out of one of these V8 LandCruisers. And the Passats would consume less fuel. Why is it that our Ghanaian officials always think about their comfort first before anything else. Ghana is in an economic decline yet officials must ride in expensive SUVS. What a country? left to me alone I would have decreed that cars for officials apart from the President and Vice shouldn't cost more than $30,000. Anyone who wants to ride in an expensive could buy his own. We consume all that we produce leaving nothing for savings and investment. Then we go abroad looking for handouts and loans. Are we just mentally backward.
All major car manufacturers are planning to roll out en masse self-driving cars from 2020. Ford starts in 2021. I know there may be more pressing issues like untarred roads, malnutrition but I believe that we ought take sometime to ponder over this development. Soon Ghanaians would be bringing self-driving cars into the country. Visit blog.boachsoft.com
NPP villagee folks stop the propaganda and rule. Stop fighting and eule. The elections are over. Ghanaians know when to call for Mahama
Government of wrong priorities. The truth will surely come out.
I smell corruption in this.... NDC guys don't say the truth when they are caught. We will find out the truth in the next few days.
bribing the judiciary?
If the car have not been cleared yet they must wait for due diligence. We have a new administration and the preference of the old order is over.
How do you justify this as value for money ? what a shame
Could the government not have imported a cheaper car? How much do you need to run a v8. this is corruption in disguise
