Former Chief of Staff, Mr Julius Debrah has revealed that the imported V8 cars alluded to DAILY GUIDE story culled by Peacefmonline.com are for the Judicial Service.
"They are not for the Executive," Mr Debrah is reported to have said.
Communications Minister forwarded the Chief of Staff's rejoinder to Peacefmonline a short while ago.
The Chief of Staff's clarification is in sharp response to a misleading story which sought to suggest that President Mahama's Government is clearing vehicles at the port for purposes unknown.
According to the newsitem as published by DAILY GUIDE Friday, "41 brand new V8 engine Toyota Land Cruiser vehicles have arrived at the Tema Habour scheduled to be cleared by the outgoing Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) government with just a day for a change in government".
The report indicated that "the vehicles arrived at the Tema Habour four days ago, raising concerns about who may have imported them into the country at this time and for what purpose they were brought in."
"Checks by DAILY GUIDE indicate that they were brought into the country by the outgoing NDC administration and a letter from the presidency, the Flagstaff House, had been issued for them to be cleared.
According to sources, Customs officers were confused as to whether the vehicles should be released or not since they are exempted from duty.
The officer-in-charge at the Port with the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Assistant Commissioner, Confidence Nyadzi, told DAILY GUIDE that he was acting on instructions from the outgoing government until there is a counter directive."
But the Chief of Staff has clarified that what Government did for the Judicial Service is basically to facilitate clearance from the port by ensuring exemption of various fees and charges.

IF PUBLIC OFFICIALS ARE GIVEN ALL THE BIG CARS, MANSIONS, EXGRACIA, FREE FUEL, THEY EVEN FILL THEIR FRIDGES WITH FOOD AND DRINKS! WHERE IN THIS WORLD WILL SUCH A STIWWPID THING HAPPEN? ANYWAY, IF THAT IS THE CASE THEN LETS IMPOSE ALL THE TAXES ON THESE GUYS ALONE TO PAY. SAYING THIS BECAUSE IF THESE FEW GUYS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL THE WASTE IN THE COUNTRY THEN THEY MUST PAY FOR ALL OUR DEBTS. DONT IMPOSE MORE TAXES ON THE TAXI DRIVER AND OTHER NORMAL PEOPLE! LET THEM PAY.
IBRAHIM MHAHAMA COULD BE THE OWNER OF THESE V8S BECAUSE HE HAS BEEN IMPORTING CARS AND OTHER THINGS IN THE NAME OF GHANA GOVERNMENT SO HE CAN AVOID PAYING TAXES. IBRAHIM MAHAMA HAS EVADED MORE TAXES THAN ANY INDIVIUAL IN THE HISTORY OF THIS COUNTRY. PLEASE!!! DONT SET UP ANY MONEY CONSUMING COMMITTEE TO INVESTIGATE SUCH THINGS. LETS INSTITUTIONS WORK. I DONT THINK H E NANA ADDO WILL MAKE SUCH MISTAKES
Were they captured in the handing over note ?? The fact is that the ndc wanted to give some chies these v8s but because all Eyes were on the chiefs during the elections, the ndc then decided to bring these cars into the coutry after the elections because they thought they will win, and share it to to the chiefs as a thank you gift.Thank you Ghanaians for voting these Th-ives out of office
This smells to high heaven of corruption. Did the judicial service quest 41 expensive cars? Which company was employed to import them? Had the owner of this comp[any have any connection with any members of the government? I hope that the new NPP investigating committee will look closely into this deal and publish its findings quick;y
We simply have to stop providing all these to government officials. This is absolute ***barred word***. We have European ministers going to work on bicycles, in buses & trains and we have a country that is always going abegging, providing residences for officials, transportation, petrol even ***barred word*** paper, excuse my French, the poor man is paying for these people. All these have to stop. All these ministers have homes before they come into power. Why don't they continue living in the communities they have always lived in to show that they are peoples' ministers or MPs. Residences & transportation to government officials were in the colonial days, we are in our 60th year of independence, country, let us wake up & scrap all these for we really have nothing to show for our retirement age. A gargantuan SHAME.
This will be easy to verify....
