President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has for the first time spoken about his inaugural speech plagiarism gaffe, but on a lighter note.
Akufo-Addo court international embarrassment when it became evident that aspects of his inaugural speech on January 7, 2017 were riddled with plagiarised quotes of two former US presidents George Bush and Bill Clinton.
Speaking at a thanksgiving service at the Ridge Church in Accra for successfully taking over the administration of Ghana, Akufo-Addo amused the congregation when he appropriately sourced a quote from the Bible and reminded them that he has purged himself of any form of plagiarism.
“I want to refer to the book of Lamentation 3: 25, 26: ‘The LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. It is good that one should hope and wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord,’” he read from the Bible.
Akufo-Addo then broke the silence in the church auditorium when he joked, “end of the quote. I have had problems with quotes… so that there is no more confusion.”
Serving as Ghana’s fifth president, Nana Addo said he is “so proud and deeply humbled” to lead Ghana.
He noted Ghanaians must be proud of themselves after a successful election which paved way for him to assume power, urging everyone to help safeguard the peace being enjoyed in the country.
He was at the church service with his wife Rebecca Akufo-Addo and vice president Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. Prof. Cephas Omenyo lauded the president over his pledge to protect the public purse.
“My heart leapt with joy when you made the important statement that you would protect the public purse. I am also encouraged by your own pledge in setting the personal example in upholding integrity and service and I pray that the Lord enables you to see the realisation of this noble intention,” he noted.

The conduct of the old and utterances of the new moderator seems to paint a picture that the NPP can do no wrong in the eyes of the Presby Church. They should have gone ahead and campaigned for NPP like Obinim, prophet 1. no surprises. how can nana protect public purse when he's already created many job-for-the-boys ministries and and put 5 of his cousins in high positions without Conflict Of Interest worries??
his inauguration could have been a a worthy occasion worth watching for generations and quoting from but his competent staff could not lay off booze and girls after victory. when it dawned on them the ndc was not going to write a speech for nana, they hurriedly copied from here and there still too inebriated to even change the sentences. nana! even local proverbs are quoted with due respect to elders living and gone, who made such clever observation and put them to words.
OOOH SO COMPETENT BAWUMIA COULD NOT RESCUE NANA FROM PLAGIARISM AND REDUCING MOTHER GHANA TO THE LOWEST LEVEL AT THIS MEMORABLE OCCASION? COMMON REFERENCE NPP COULDN'T YET CLAIM THEY ARE COMPETENT ENOUGH DEVELOPE THE COUNTRY HMMMM. TIME WILL TELL.
@ Vasi, read the small print beneath the picture, it says "file photo" so this is not a recent picture, it was taken possibly months ago so calm down wai.
I am not sure, somebody help me. I think the new Government can only start work effectively after those to hold office have been screened or vetted by the new Cabinet which is yet to be put in place. Another thing is that parliament is still in recession and until the parliamentarians resume, the president can really do very little. Please allow the President to dance now. I believe action will start from February. This is the time for them to revise their notes on the promises so keep your cool fellow Ghanaians
Upon all the brilliant minds not one soul could write a good script for Nana. Yet NPP boast of lawyers, Doctors, Engineer etc.Laughing stock on the World stage.
We are fed up with your dancing, pls Mr. President be serious and start working on your promises, always dance, dance, dance dance why?????, we ve voted for you to change the economy for us, work must start now!!!
