Minority Caucus in Parliament has expressed shock over what they describe as ‘bias attitude’ put out by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Michael Aaron Ocquaye, over the approval of Ms. Otiko Afisa Djaba’s nomination as Minister-designate for Gender, Children and Social Protection.
According to them, the Speaker deliberately ignored the Minority Leader, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, who was on his feet for more 15 minutes wanting to make a point.
Addressing the media shortly after the proceedings on the floor, Deputy Minority Leader, Hon. James Avedzi, noted that the refusal by the Speaker to recognise the minority leader was a clear sign of biasness.
The minority leader made several attempts to draw the attention of the Speaker, and that of the House to what he termed “illegality” the August House would commit if they approved the nomination of Ms. Otiko Djaba, but he was ignored.
The approval of Ms. Otiko Djaba’s nomination as Minister-designate for Gender, Children and Social Protection dragged on till around 7:30 p.m., on the floor of Parliament.
It would be recalled that the approval of Ms. Afisa Djaba was deferred by Parliament last week Friday, February, 3, 2017 for lack of consensus.
“Yes, you have the numbers and you can do whatever you want, but we want to assure that as the people’s representatives and legislators, we won’t be party to any illegality,” the minority leader lamented.
After the heated debate on the floor, the approval of minister-designate for gender, children and social protection went into voting which saw only the majority members vote with the minority remaining in their seats without partaking in the process.
At the end of the voting, Ms. Afisa Djaba polled 152 YES votes as against zero votes, her nomination was therefore, approved by a majority decision.

to be in opposition is good for your brains. now you can see and think clearly. you have not seen anything yet.
The law prevents people who have not done National Service from seeking employment or being employed. Please remember that Otiko did not write any application, did not present any academic certificates to become minister. She was appointed by the President in the interest of the nation. This makes her appointment not subject to any law. Even the vetting is not supported by any law. In effect she has not sought employment but rather the President used his executive powers to appoint her minister in the interest of the nation. I advise the MPs to use their time profitably elsewhere.
'...we won't be party to illegality!' touts Haruna Iddrisu in parliament. Is it any legal, and moral, ethically sound, to plot to cover up heinous abuses a defeated past Chief Executive Administrator of the Republic of Ghana has staged and pulled off against the nation state's economy? Are you telling us you did not know the filth is steaming hot yet to treat?
poor headline. It should read ... was BIASED! aba!
What is this obsession with Otiko? You are really bent of getting apologies for your tin god Mahama. Please get over it and let's move on.
NDc mo ma y3n dwen y3 ho ooooo ton why
That's alllllll! You can even sleep, yennfa wo ho
Doe Adjaho was worse towards NPP....... NDC must keep quiet and enjoy their opposition. They are likely to remain in opposition for a very long long time with this attitude. Even Oti Bless of Montie 3 fame was approved as a minister under NDC.
The NDC has done worse things and they know how the game is played. Making noise in one of the tools in the trade of any opposition group in parliament
